Your Style Fix

With a natural eye for balance and a love for layering, colour and texture, stylist Sophie Barker loves creating a story around the looks she creates, seamlessly weaving a fashionable yet accessible edge throughout. Here, she tells us what essential items we should be stocking up on this AW season. 

What are some of your favourite trends this season?

I love the plaid trend but it has been absolutely saturated. If you’re looking to attempt the trend, perhaps do it a little differently. Rather than going the black and white plaid blazer which every man and their dog own, choose a plaid with a mix of neutral tones or even pop colours so you don’t end up standing next to your twin in the grocery line. I got mine from Zara.

I’m also loving a printed tee. I know it’s not very seasonal but it can add character to an otherwise boring Winter look. Winter fashion can be so dull.. black, layered on top of black, on top of black. Why not layer a colourful printed tee over a turtleneck or a long sleeve top, then pair it with a coat and some plaid trousers. POW. Supre have some fun ones. 

What are your top 3 styling tips for AW 2018?

Velvet heels, giant oversized sweaters over silk midi skirts and a SMILE!

Obsessed with the Senso forest green velvet mules from David Jones. 
 
What are some of your personal favourite places to shop at Highpoint?

I personally shop at Zara a lot. They have a great way of reinterpreting current trends and making them more wearable and affordable, the quality can be quite good too. Uniqlo is also incredible for a good quality bargain, especially during Winter. Their 100% merino wool sweaters for $39.90 are a steal, I have them in three colours. For accessories I LIVE at Lovisa, their accessories are always vary from simple and fine, to bold and interesting. They’ve got something for every look. Some other favourites include David Jones for all our Aussie grown designer labels, Glassons, Platypus and Rubi.

Who is your personal style icon?

There are some incredible women who’s style I adore such as Diane Kruger, but in terms of my personal style I love Pernille Teisbaek and Maja Wyh. Neither of them adhere to the typical rules of fashion or styling, In my opinion you can wear anything you like as long as you own it (unless you’re wearing last nights pyjamas to the supermarket, although i’m probably guilty of this). You’ve got to both look and feel comfortable.
