'Pipedreams' by Matthew Harding - August 2016 (Pipemakers Park, opposite Highpoint)
Maribyrnong City Council presents Pipedreams, by internationally renowned Australian public sculptor and designer, Matthew Harding.
Pipedreams is Council’s major public art commission for Thompson Reserve Maribyrnong, at the entrance to Pipemakers Park. This striking sculpture is fabricated from 32 kms of layered marine grade stainless steel rod and tube, and stands 8 metres high by 12 metres wide. In-ground LED lighting will provide a gentle spectrum of alternating patterns at dusk.
The concept design was inspired by historical working methods used in the pipe making industries, in particular, the steel cages built to reinforce concrete pipes produced for many decades at Pipemakers Park. The hollow central form also reflects river flows, a vessel for history and a window to the past.
